We've organized a single-decker bus to collect our American colleagues this afternoon. The delegation is headed by COL Daniel van Voorhis who was the commander of 1st Cavalry Regiment at Fort Knox before coming here. The other personnel are all in some way connected with Fort Knox. They are: LTC Adna Chaffee Jr. LTC Manton Eddy LTC Wade H. Haislip LTC George S. Patton Jr. MAJ Hugh J. Gaffey MAJ Maurice Rose MAJ Joseph Collins CPT Isaac D. White COL van Voorhis is no stranger to a couple of our Armour officers - I've never heard of any of them. There are rooms to spare in the nearby Saffron Hotel where the 'real' Canadians are staying. It has a bar/lounge, restaurant plus a garden and it is only 10 mins. walk from our HQ. They are going to be busy over the weekend because they have to learn to sing the Canadian national Anthem, God Save the King and a couple more songs Tomorrow, Saturday, two more colleagues are expected: Major Orde Wingate, who Guy Simonds and I visited Monday, and WOI Thomas E. Shaw from the RAF - more about him later. They will be staying at the HQ where I live. We've also been informed that Admiral Sir Roger Keyes has been appointed commander of Combined Operations Headquarters and that Commander Louis Mountbatten will head their Hq. in Alexandria, Egypt. Got to run. Brigadier John Fuller and I must leave for Paddington railway station.
