Our trip to London went well. We picked up our US colleagues and brought them to their hotel where they were welcomed by General Gort. In the evening we three Captains, Guy Simonds, I. D. White and myself, sneaked out and visited a pub called The Duke of York just down the road. We taught I. D. how to play darts and cribbage. I was a bit thirsty this morning.
Today Major Wingate arrived followed by WOI Shaw a couple of hours later. Shaw is really Thomas E. Lawrence known as Lawrence of Arabia. He recently served in the RAF under a false name, (which was known by higher headquarters), and was recently released after serving his time. He will be assigned to our Sudan detachment. At TRADOC only General Gort, Major Wingate and I know who he really is. He was told in very clear terms what his duties will be and what he is NOT to do. He prefers the anonymity so there was no problem.
On Monday I'll be going to the MoD with General Gort, Major Wingate and Colonel Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, the leader of the French delegation at TRADOC. I presume it will be about Italy and Abyssinia. It looks like plans are being set in motion.
That's all for today...
