I briefed General Gort and MG Fuller about this morning's meeting but when I started making recommendations about things that need to be done he stopped me. Nothing will be decided until after next Friday's meeting. Save your recommendations for there. When asked if there's anything we need I suggested that a senior RAF operations officer would be useful and we would like to have Admiral Keyes assigned to our group.
Next I was told that the Germans were organizing a Mountain Brigade so we are going to do the same. The 9th Highland Division, a duplicate of the 51st, will be responsible for training. Initially volunteers from within the Scottish divisions will be accepted. The government has also agreed to call-up another 100,000 unemployed reservists and 18-21 year-olds for military service. The expansion of the RAF is the main reason.
The Air Ministry has added a few more aircraft types to the list forwarded to them last week, notably a transport version of a heavy bomber and trainer aircraft. Hopefully now there will be less friction between us and the Ministry.
Time for dinner.
