Yesterday was filled with more flight-training at RAF Duxford. I really look forward to this each weekend. Today Admiral Keyes invited a dozen of us to a working lunch at the O-Club - on a Sunday! As Commander-in-Chief of the new Joint Expeditionary Force, (JEF), he informed us of our new appointments within the planning group. There was no mention of the secret Italian option until there was only LTC Patton and CPT de Hautclocque left - they had been asked to remain.
That's when they were told that Canadian Army Lieutenant-General Patton would be commanding the Mobile Corps and Captain de Hautclocque will be his aide-to-camp. They were told the reasons why, (see my previous diary entry), and it needs to be kept secret until we are on our way to Gibraltar sometime next week - the exact date yet to be determined. George Patton now has to really study Canadian-French and his ADC's job is to provide him intensive help. More details will tomorrow.
I'm destined to fly to Gibraltar twice a week as the courier since radio and telephone communication is prohibited when the Italian-option is part of the content. It still has to be clarified whether our Parachute training can still take place 3 weeks from now - I certainly hope so. I want one of those Thompson SMG's.
