Another busy day behind me. This morning's meeting was over fairly quickly because the documents which I had brought from Lisbon explained everything. After an early lunch I drove General Gort, COL Fuller and CPT Wales to London for our meeting at the MoD. There were about a dozen people present including the PM Stanley Baldwin. General Gort brought them up to date and gave them ADM Keyes request for aircraft as well as the plans for the Royal Navy detailing which ships and where they would be used.
All of our capital ships in European waters were assigned a mission and that raised a few eyebrows. It would leave none in home waters. We explained that at least one squadron would be at Gibraltar and most of the ships would be in the western Mediterranean. Only one aircraft-carrier and a battlecruiser would be assigned to the East African operation. Also the majority of the ships would only be required on the first day so they would soon be back in the Atlantic.
The good news is that the plan has been given their approval. We were informed that that Foreign Secretary will be travelling to Yugoslavia and Greece this week. He will return to London via Paris. The PM and Winston Churchill will meet him there.
I'll be doing the courier trip again this weekend but will return Saturday instead of Sunday. We drove home relieved that the plan was progressing well. Hopefully we can get Greece and Yugoslavia to join us. Greece shouldn't be a problem given that they stand to regain the Dodecanese Islands. A good day today.
