MAJ Collins, who is the courier to Lisbon during my absence, brought General Gort a large package yesterday. In the evening he took me one side and showed me the cover letter and asked me what I know about this. It was Plan B, the invasion of Sardinia, in case our Plan A is compromised. I told him that George Patton and I had discussed the option of a Plan B but I didn't know of any details or if they were even going to draw up plans. In England, only the General and I know of this Plan B. There is no indication that our original plan has been compromised so we don't have to decide anything until after an Italian invasion of Abyssinia. We have to wait for the League of Nations conference before intervening, so there is no hurry. MAJ Collins will be here Thursday for a response.
