Major Collins arrived in the early evening and I accompanied General Gort to the meeting. Our main concern is whether the Italian operation has been compromised or not. A good indication is whether Alpine units from the Turin area are still being transferred to Eritrea. Is 5th Infantry Division in Savona still being transferred to Benghazi? Has there been any abrupt change in the flow of men and material through the Suez Canal? Questions which need to be asked in Lisbon this weekend.
In other news the MoD has reviewed our plans to convert the A10 tank to an Infantry Support Vehicle using the 75mm gun. A separate vehicle will have the 6-pdr AT gun when it becomes available. That is good news.
