We arrived in Aosta just before lunch. We found a hotel then after lunch we drove towards Mont Blanc. It was a clear sunny day so every now and than we could see the imposing mountain. There's nothing like this in England...
The valley was getting narrower the further we drove and just after Courmayeur there is a 'bottle-neck' and behind it is a relative large open space. Obviously the advancing troops have to get through this section. I took a few photos of the railway station and drove back to Aosta. Sally was taking pictures when I asked her to. We used three films today. I was very quiet this evening, thinking about the task the French Mountain Division had ahead of it. There are another 50 km from Aosta to Ivrea where the valley widens considerably. I had to remind myself that we don't intend capturing Turin, just threatening to capture it. The threat from the south and west will be much more real.
