We left Toulon after breakfast and drove north to Vienne, a small town just before Lyon. We had a very French lunch then drove further. I stopped in Macon to buy a case of Chardonnay red wine then drove non-stop to Paris. We have a room reserved for us at the Ritz - guests of the French Ministry of War. A Major was waiting to take me to meet Admiral Darlan.
I gave him a copy of my report and the photos we had taken. He studied them then quizzed me for almost an hour. I left with a diplomatic 'package' to take back to England.
Back at the hotel Sally and I had a lavish dinner - the French were paying. This time tomorrow we shall be home.
