Home Sweet Home
We arrived early at Boulogne to catch the ferry to Folkestone. We had lunch in London then drove to Saffron Walden. I dropped off Sally and our luggage at our home then drove to the HQ. The General and a few others came outside to look at the new car. It makes the Hillmans look a bit cheap.
I gave General Gort our reports and photos plus the packages from Toulon and Paris. I also turned over my provisional expenses list, we had 'officially' spent almost £400 but I didn't know what could or could not be included. He told me to keep the rest - the money had been well spent. I also informed him that Sally also knows the full plan for an Italian campaign. General Smith had included her because she had figured out on her own what was going on. I then asked if I am allowed to invest in the arms industry because I know that Louis Mountbatten has a patent which is used by the Royal Navy. Technically, it is not prohibited but be careful not to look like a war profiteer.
I had a chat with Prince Edward while I was reclaiming my desk, asked him if he were interested in investing in ideas which would improve our military. He was interested and when I mentioned Louis Mountbatten he said that I could count on him. I have to talk with Sally but after this Abyssinian crisis is resolved I want to realize a few ideas. Our new house has priority though.
I've just found out that there has been meetings in Paris between French, British and Italian officials but nothing has materialized. The Italians are bent on conquest, they are not interested in a peaceful solution. When I had my desk organized my way I walked home - there is nowhere to park the car so I'm leaving it at HQ.
We ate at our local this evening and had a chance to chat with our bank manager. Our idea about a larger home would be no problem at all. A great day behind us.
Now I have to think about going overseas again. Captain Franklin has accepted one of the company commands and his platoon has been assigned the Eritrean mission.
