Major-General Brownrigg asked me to fly with him to his HQ in Port Sudan this morning. I brought Aude Wingate and Erwin Rommel along too. He showed us his plans for the march into Eritrea then asked for comments. I saw that the coastal road is not a coastal road and it goes up and down mountains. Aude commented that it's a former smugglers track not a road! The general thought that all three of us were part of planning group but only I was. I told him that and I agreed that it is a silly plan. So we came up with a better one and that's why I flew to Luxor and am waiting for the night train to Cairo where I'll be meeting Commander Mountbatten tomorrow morning. Hopefully I can get some sleep on the train.
