I spent the time with the platoon this morning checking our supplies. The good news is that eleven of the Valentias are serviceable which means that seven are available to airlift the Highlanders to Eritrea if Mussolini makes his move. I told this to the Company commander and that those that couldn't fit in the aircraft need to go Kassala airfield because that is where the transport-aircraft will fly to after their mission, not here. He asked if he could have a Thompson SMG. I had to disappoint him but one might get lost during the mission and he may be the lucky one to find it....
In the afternoon I wrote to Sally then had early dinner with Thomas Shaw again. Erwin joined us later. He had been at the border with a few guys from the advanced battalion. From a hill they could see a long way into Eritrea and had been updating their maps with recognizable features. I had a couple of beers then retired early.
