We've finally started receiving more admin personnel. The orderly room has been organised, run by Second Lieutenant Dave Williams. We have also received dozens of filing cabinets; most of them have been placed in the basement. We need them because of all the areas of interest. Not only every branch of the armed forces but also all firms involved in the arms industry, all research projects, foreign military activites and of course our own active projects.
The top item at the moment is the meeting with the French next week. It is now to be held in Cherbourg and we'll be travelling there from Portsmouth on a Royal Navy cruiser. The Secretary of War, Winston Churchill, is eager to gain French support for our plans to discourage Italian ambitions in Abyssinia. There is little interest being shown at the League of Nations. We've ordered the RAF to locate all Fairey III's and Hawker Horsley's which have recently been retired.
All Lieutenant-Generals and Generals, and their equivalents in the RAF and RN, are at the War Office today. There is some confusion, and objection, to our Command's role within the military establishment. Add to that the anti-armour sentiment of most senior Army officers and you can imagine how unpopular we are in some circles. Both Winston Churchill and Field Marshall Montgomery-Massingberd, the Chief of the Imperial General Staff, are armour enthusiasts so they should be able to get the message across to the non-believers. General Gort will also propose that the Army purchase some Vickers 6-Ton (Mark E, Type B) light tanks - enough to equip two battalions. Currently these tanks are only being built for export.
