Before we left TRADOC Edward informed me that the visit to Edgware yesterday looked very promising. Daryl has been told that de Havilland will be building gliders and that's why wood is being used. He's been asked to form a 'cooperative' with other carpenters and next week there will be a second meeting, probably at the hotel. "If it's in the evening I can be there. I do own half the firm. Let me call Geoffrey." I talked to him and apparently there was no date/time at the moment but he would have the meeting in the evening. After a quick meal at home Sally, Mum and I went to the hotel. I said my farewells there because Irvine would be driving them to the airport tomorrow. I also received a bottle of champagne from Daryl Shepherd. He's been hired by de Havilland and next week's meeting is to introduce other carpenters from the region. I'm happy for him. All we have to do now is get contracts for the aircraft. I spent most of the evening at the "German" table with John Gort and later Winston Churchill. His arrival was a big surprise. He also had no objection to Sally and I visiting Germany next month. Needless to say, it was late when we left for home.
