On the flight to Tobruk I had lots of time to consider what I had agreed to in Tel Aviv. Decisions made which were without approval from London. Somehow I have to sell this to Winston that's why I'm using my free time to review my notes and type convincing reports. I told MG Howard that 17th Brigade should prepare to start sending cadres to start building 5th Armoured Division's second infantry brigade in northern Palestine. In London I'm going to strongly recommend that we accelerate the creation of the division. Unlike the other four divisions the 5th is in an imminent conflict zone and the 5th Infantry Division has combat experience. I'm even suggesting that we send the cadres back to England and leave the gross of the battalions in the Middle East. In addition, we should consider promoting Geoffrey Howard and have him replace General Wauchope in Jerusalem. Tomorrow we shall be flying to Athens with a stop on Crete to refuel (playing safe). We're on the homestretch now.
