When we woke up this morning we were already approaching Halifax. Prime Minister Bennett came on board accompanied by some members of his cabinet and military chiefs. I wasn't present at the talks but I've told that they were very cordial. Canada has also suffered from the Great Depression and the recovery is slow. President Roosevelt's New Deal package is greeted here. Military spending has a relatively low priority in the Canadian Budget but with the prospect of investment from the UK the Prime Minister promised to review the situation.
There are a few Canadians who will be travelling with us to England to join TRADOC. They are LTC Henry Crerar, MAJ Tommy Burns, CPT Guy Simonds and CPT Des Smith. CPT Simonds had studied at the Long Gunnery Staff Course in England last year and welcomed the opportunity to return. We have a lot to talk about on the journey home.
