The news from Palestine was quite a surprise for me and I hope that I managed to conceal it from the French Prime Minister Daladier. I'm sure there was a good reason for the raid because it could foil all attempts for a peaceful solution in Palestine and potentially widen the Syrian conflict. After conferring with Edward and John I decided to change my plans. I shall be flying from Spain to Palestine on Wednesday, the others will travel to Rome on HMS Rodney without me. I hope to find time to visit King Umberto during my return journey from Palestine to England. He also decided to accompany me later this evening to meet the Circassian delegation.
In fact John and I spent a lot of time this afternoon discussing Palestine. I told him not to worry. I have no intentions starting a war but what do we do if Transjordanian forces are attacked by an Arabian neighbour...
