After an uneventful flight we have landed safely at Valetta on Malta after a refueling stop in Benghazi. Yesterday I had a long conversation with General Howard and we agreed upon my final recommendations to Winston Churchill. Later in the evening I talked with David Ben Gurion then had a farewell drink with my TRADOC friends. Orde assured me that package for the MoD would be on a night flight from Alexandria together with Irvine's presents for his family. All part of the service. I'm sleeping at my favourite hotel again and we'll be leaving for Rome before daybreak so it's an early night for us. I've had time to read some newspapers and the headlines are about the legislative elections in Spain. Both the main parties (groups) have claimed victory, it is so close, so observers are waiting for the final results to be announced. In Rome tomorrow there will hopefully be more clarity. A lot is at stake but I'm encouraged by the conservative victories in Britain and France a couple of months ago.
