I was hoping that General Deverell would be at the Army and Navy Club and he was indeed there. After greetings I brought him up to date with recent events in Palestine and my discussions in Germany. There are concerns in London that the transition of power in Germany was much too smooth and that we haven't heard the last word from there. I could confirm that in Bavaria there is dissatisfaction over the turn of events in Berlin but I didn't observe any rioting or other disturbance. We also talked about his upcoming promotion and new assignment. I cautioned him that it hasn't been confirmed yet but it does appear to be certain. He is an advocate of preparing for an eventual conflict overseas and agrees that Japan is the greater threat to the Empire and world peace. I suggested that our main contribution to countering the Soviet threat should be with naval and air power. The Germans, French and Poles have more than adequate land forces. Our land forces should be deployed to the Middle, Near and Far East with the latter having the greatest priority. I informed him of advanced plans to greatly increase our naval presence there also that the French would add a carrier fleet with possibly a German squadron. That surprised him a little. After briefly mentioning meeting General Ironside this evening as well as welcoming two new German officers to TRADOC I departed and drove to Saffron Walden.
