The Cabinet meeting itself was very much a repeat of Monday's Defence Council meeting. Winston did most of the talking so I kept quiet as much as possible. I confirmed that there was indeed a conflict ongoing in Palestine but not like the conflict in French Mandate. I also agreed that there was also a de-facto partition happening primarily because the Jewish organizations are cooperating with the British administration whereas the Arabs are not. "In my opinion, we can either support the current situation and gain the support of the Jewish Agency led by David ben Gurion and Emir Abdullah in Jordan or oppose it and have everybody fighting British Forces in Palestine. We are militarily prepared for such a conflict but I see no exit strategy other than not fighting in the first place. It would be a conflict that we could not win, Prime Minister." Winston supported my comments and to my surprise Anthony Eden didn't disagree with my assessment of the situation. The Prime Minister however refused to commit himself. I briefly added a comment when the improved unemployment figures were mentioned and inquired about the official status of our negotiations with France and Germany. I was told that it is hoped that a joint-statement will be made later this month. After the Cabinet meeting Anthony asked Winston and I to join him at the Carlton Club. Winston was visibly surprised then he explained that Anthony was a very un-clubable person.
