No. 1 FTS formed by renaming RAF Leuchars, Scotland, in April 1935. It is primarily used to train Royal Navy personnel for the Fleet Air Arm.
No. 2 FTS formed on 1 October 1934 in No 23 Group at Digby, equipped with Tutors for basic training and Harts and Furies for the service training phase.
No. 3 FTS formed at Spitalgate near Grantham on 1 April 1928, equipped with Avro 504Ns and Siskins, which were later replaced by Tutors, Atlases and Harts.
No. 4 FTS formed at Abu Suier in Egypt on 1 April 1921 to train pilots, primarily for squadrons based in the Middle East; it operated Avro 504s until they were gradually replaced by Tutors.
No. 5 FTS formed on 26 April 1920 at Shotwick, near Chester, it was one of the RAF’s main flying training units equipped with Avro 504 Ks, Siskins, Tutors and Harts.
