It's been a long week. I was at 2nd Infantry Division yesterday to meet Major Hawkins and Captain Franklin from the Parachute Company. I was impressed by the progress they had made. They have a training program, a tower for jump practice as well as a couple of dozen parachutes - they are only missing aircraft to jump out of. They also have a parachute rigging course which is an optional part of the 4 week jump course. They want to organize a platoon-sized course first and are looking for 100 volunteers within the division. They are expecting at least 50% of the candidates to drop out. TRADOC has been allocated 6 slots. I said that I would coordinate with our new "transport" squadron to see if any aircraft are available. We have an intelligence report from Poland that a German unit "accidently" crossed the border last week and when confronted by Polish forces they hastily retreated leaving a few vehicles behind. An artillery tractor has been inspected and we've obtained a few photos. It's a 6x4 light truck which is apparently also being used for their armoured car development. We are hoping to send someone to inspect it. A couple of pics... There was a bit of a stir this morning when Commander Mountbatten arrived - he brought his "friend" Prince Edward with him. I believe the General had a few words with him later. That's all for now.
