Pierre Laval, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, resigned today due to unresolvable differences about the future course of French foreign policy. FM Laval continued to insist upon a pro-Italian, anti-German policy despite Mussolini's obvious ambitions in East Africa. He was also opposed by the British PM Stanley Baldwin and his FM Anthony Eden who were in Paris to seek clarity about a joint policy towards Germany and Italy. The President of the Council, Pierre Étienne Flandin, decided to assume the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, while Albert Sarraut becomes the new President of the Council and retains his current post as Minister of the Interior. This is Sarraut's second Ministry, the first being from 26 October to 26 November 1933.
Key members of the new cabinet are:
Albert Sarraut – President of the Council and Minister of the Interior
Pierre Étienne Flandin – Minister of Foreign Affairs
Édouard Daladier – Minister of War
Georges Bonnet – Minister of Finance
Ludovic-Oscar Frossard – Minister of Labour François Piétri – Minister of Marine
Pierre Cot – Minister of Air
