Winston Churchill and Anthony Eden attended a meeting at the French War Ministry this morning. The Foreign Secretary briefed the French on his meetings with leaders in Egypt and East Africa. The French then described their preparations in East Africa. They approved the plan for operations to support Abyssinia if Italy invades the nation. No mention was made of the Gibraltar planning group. That was discussed at a working lunch with only people who knew about the Italy operation. The question about secure communications was discussed and approved. The only problem was about the decision to leave the League of Nations. It is not a decision that has to be decided now but Secretary Churchill will be in Washington to brief President Roosevelt and Secretary Eden will be in Geneva to inform the League of Nations on the day we enter the war. The French agreed to similar actions.
