My conversation with Sally yesterday evening was much easier than I imagined it would be. I told her that we won't be spies, I'll just be very attentive looking for things out of the ordinary. The real danger is if Italy were to attack Abyssinia while we are still in Italy, but then only if Britain declares war on Italy. I shall definitely be reading the newspapers each morning.
As for preparations I have bought 30 rolls of good film and put together a decent medical kit. My Michelin map for NW Italy has also arrived. An unexpected blessing came from General Gort. He has talked to 'General Smith' and has arranged that a car will made available when we arrive in Toulon. I also have the name of the hotel where our TRADOC guys are staying. The really big surprise was the £500 he gave me, but I need to keep the receipts if I use any of the money. I promptly gave him the receipt for the 30 film rolls. He was surprised that I speak Italian and Spanish, not fluent but I have a good working knowledge of both. I told him that when we first met you only asked if I speak French and German....
I'm in vacation mode now. Friday can't come soon enough. So, I have finished for today. Time to grab and go to the Saffron Hotel for dinner, it's easier than cooking at home.
