At 1000 GMT Prime Minister Baldwin and President Sarraut addressed their respective nations in a radio broadcast. They announced that, "Britain and France are at war with the Kingdom of Italy and that we are not only defending Abyssinia but intend to settle the Mussolini problem once and for all. British and French servicemen are also engaging Italian forces in North Africa, the Aegean Sea and in Italy itself. In the early hours of the morning our Royal Navy in coordination with the French Navy have attacked every major Italian port and dozens of airfields with the aim of delivering a crippling blow to their air and naval forces".
PM Baldwin added that French Army units have entered NW Italy and won't be leaving until the Italian armed forces are no longer a threat to its neighbours. Britain's and France's departure from the League of Nations was also announced.
