The British and French leaders met at Cherbourg to discuss Germany's recent announcements which are clearly a violation of the Versailles Treaty. Germany revealed the existance of the Luftwaffe and introduced general conscription with the goal of a standing army of 500,000 men or 36 Divisions.
The Prime Ministers Baldwin and Bouisson issued a joint-statement outlining greater cooperation between their two nations at the League of Nations and closer consultation in Foreign and Defence Policy. They also expressed their concern about the Italian military build-up in East Africa. Neither nation will send a delegation to meet with Mussolini at Stresa; such a visit could be interpreted as support for Italian ambitions.
The summit has been praised as a success. The discussions were frank and constructive; many issues were clarified and further meetings at ministerial level are planned later this month.
