When we arrived at the Dorchester Sally had already left with Irvine's family to get rooms at the Saffron Hotel. Irvine can't go there so he'll be using our guest room tonight. I called George Patton and asked him to meet me at the HQ map room in a couple of hours. I asked him to arrange for I.D. to be there too if he's not already there. We then drove to my home and General Gort went to the HQ. I showed Irvine his room and when he came downstairs Sally had returned from the hotel. Irvine's family had rooms and they would be here for breakfast tomorrow at 8 o'clock.
Irvine and I walked to the HQ and George, I.D. and General Gort were in the map room. Rommel arriving was of course a surprise but the General quickly told them that his name is Irvine Miller and Erwin Rommel no longer exists.
They'd received more material from the vacationers this evening and they were busy sorting. "Five more films, what have they found this time?" I wondered out loud.
"We'll have them developed by the morning," I.D. said.
"Irvine and I will be driving there tomorrow morning so we can be the morning courier. Coming with us, George?"
"Of course. I want to look at the terrain around Shaftesbury."
"That's where we intend breaching their frontline," I explained to Irvine.
"5th Brigade's HQ appears to be at Motcombe, a couple of miles NW of Shaftesbury," I.D. added. "Right in the path of the Heavy Brigade so we don't need an airborne assault there. It'll be quickly overrun."
I asked if we have anything new on the division HQ.
"We think it is at Maiden Bradley, here," pointing on the map.
"That's in Heavy Brigade's path too," I said. "We need confirmation. Sound like a mission for you, Irvine. Take civilian clothes tomorrow too. All we need to do now is locate a hotel or guest house in the area."
"Are you sure that's a good idea, Bob?"
"General, if we need final confirmation Irvine can go to the area as a German tourist. He could even take his wife Lucy with him. Nobody would suspect he is from Blue forces." I explained everything in German to Irvine and he was only too willing to help.
I brought Irvine home and I went with George to the hotel for a couple of drinks. Lucy and Gertrude were downstairs but Manfred was in bed. He is only 7 years old while Gertrud is 22. I introduced George as someone Irvine had met here and in France last month. After a couple of drinks I left for home. Sally and Irvine were chatting in the kitchen so I joined them for night cap.
