I showed Sally the letter from Irvine. "Let's collect Mum and eat at the Hotel again. It's been a long day. I also need to talk to Lucy."
Mum was pleased to meet Edward III and vice versa. Half an hour later we were at the Hotel and I looked for Lucy while the others sat at a table in the garden. I found her in the small dining room. "Guten Abend. I have a reply from Irvine," and gave Lucy the letter. "Is tomorrow convenient?"
"Yes. The bank manager has informed that the money has arrived. I've had all of it changed to sterling and dissolved the RM account. I've also had £1,000 transferred to your account. Thank you very much, Bob. I know why Irvine likes you so much."
"It's mutual, Lucy. I think highly of Irvine, both professionally and as a friend. He's a good man and I am glad he is here. I'm glad all of you are here. How is school, Manfred? Do you have a girlfriend yet? Forget the teacher. She's pretty but too old for you."
"The owner has offered me a job to help out at weekends. That way I can earn a little pocket money," Gertrud told me.
"And learn some English. Did you bring a Dirndl with you? I'm sure you would be an attraction here."
"I never had one. I had a quiet life in Germany."
"Can you cook?"
"Yes, I can. I'd make a good housewife."
"I'm sure you would, but there is no reason to hurry. I have to go. I'll see you in the morning."
At our table Sally asked if I'm in trouble at work. "No, because I didn't do anything wrong. One of my ideas has caused a stir but I didn't make it public. Anyway, it's my job to have ideas, darling."
"You have a nice home here, Bob. This is a beautiful part of England."
"I like it here, Edward. To be honest I have seen a wonderful property not too far from here but I don't want to move again. I might buy it as an investment though and rent it out."
"Did John tell you that he is looking for a house outside of London?"
"No, he hasn't mentioned it. I can show you the brochure tomorrow morning, if you wish."
It was approaching 11 o'clock so we left before we were thrown out.
