I walked home to get the car and Edward then before I drove to the hotel to get Lucy and Gertrud I saw them walking to our house. With everybody on board I drove to the estate agent. I introduced Edward and told Mrs. Ferguson that he is interested in the nice property at Tindon End. She showed him the file and while he was glancing through we told her that Lucy would like to see the house with the large rear garden at 12 Catons Lane. Mrs. Ferguson told Edward that her assistant can help with any questions.
12 Catons Lane is about a kilometre north of our house, a huge property with three separate buildings and a very large garden. Lucy and Gertrud immediately fell in love with it. There is also farmland which can be leased but Lucy declined the offer. I asked if there is a discount if she paid cash and we got a 3% rebate.
"I buy," Lucy said in English.
"It's a beautiful property, Lucy with a lot of possibilities. Plenty of space too." They don't have a guest room, instead a guest house. I have a feeling though that Gertrud wants the house. The middle building is more like a garage and workshop combined. There was probably a tractor there earlier. I explained that her husband won't be back until 10 days from now and because he is German he has to go through a few formalities before he can purchase the property.
"We'll have our unit's legal officer draw up a contract with the usual military clause. Lucy will give you £500 as a retainer which can be reimbursed if he is unable to purchase the property." She'd heard all this before but I had to legally inform her. In the past all the sales were completed so she isn't worried. We then drove back to her office to pick up Edward. On the way I explained everything to Lucy in German and that I'll meet her at the hotel later for lunch.
Back at the office Edward told me that he had called John and he was on his way here. Mrs. Ferguson was a bit confused until we told her that our brother John was the one looking for a country residence. Thirty minutes later John arrived and he was very interested in the property.
"So, you two don't need me to look at a house and you don't need me to drive you around so I'm going back to work. Have fun and I'll see you maybe at the hotel for lunch." We thanked Mrs. Ferguson and left. The ladies decided to walk so I drove to the HQ with the paperwork and a roll of film to be developed.
That's Irvine and family more or less taken care of. The only bad news is that the weather has taken a turn for worse so I have had to call off the BBQ planned for tomorrow. COL Thomson from the MoD had called but that can wait until I have given Lucy's documents to our legal officer. Coffee is next then COL Thomson.
