It started raining heavily during the night. I hope the troops of 2nd Infantry are up to their knees in mud and their spirits are dampened. I left home later than planned because I had to wait for the shopping list. I have the car therefore I have to do the shopping. There isn't much happening at the HQ. I glanced through the mail from the courier and it was mostly letters because the 'vacationers' have all returned to Colchester.
I went to the map room and talked to George. They've made an important change. They intend leaving the ISV's on flatbed railcars and offloading them in Gillingham. It will save fuel, reduce wear and tear on the tracks and our infiltration will be much quieter. A good idea.
"Anything else you want to change?" I asked George.
"No. I think we are ready now. At least until the next change."
I showed him the letter about Rommel's accident. "I told you that Rommel is dead. You haven't seen this."
"That's quite a cover-up."
"It is. I have to go shopping otherwise no Sunday roast tomorrow."
"I'm meeting Beatrice at the Hotel at twelve. Will you be there?"
"Probably."
On my way out SGT Philipps approached me. "The SGM said you are looking for someone with carpentry skills."
"That's correct. You can build cages and things for animals?"
"It's a hobby of mine, Sir but I have a friend who's a carpenter by trade."
"That's good to know. Look, I'll get in touch with you after the exercise if that's fine with you?"
"No problem, Sir."
"Have a nice weekend, SGT Philipps and thanks."
I bought a large piece of lamb so that there will be enough left over for a Lancashire Hotpot on Monday and some for sandwiches on Tuesday. So I have time to get changed then go to the Hotel. It's showery now so maybe I can stay dry.
