In a short statement to the press the Prime Minister acknowledged that there had indeed been a proposal presented to Emperor Haile Selassie almost identical to that revealed in the joint Abyssinian-French press conference yesterday. It was presented to His Majesty during a private conversation with the Foreign Secretary, Anthony Eden. Britain and France support the proposal and Emperor Haile Selassie has signalled his acceptance.
