"What? Carter has ordered two battalions of infantry to Milton on Stour to block my advance?" "LTC Miller's force will get there first, Colonel." Patton had just supervised the ISV's being offloaded. Miller's Royal Fusiliers had received trucks from 1st South Lancs. Bn and together with a battalion-sized BG from the 1st QORWK was now racing towards Milton on Stour. The South Lancs. infantry would now ride mounted on the ISV's and buses. The main column left Gillingham at 0330 with Patton in a much better mood. The earlier orders for 6th Brigade had been rescinded and new ones issued. The road northwards was wide open! The column: BG Miller (Advance Guard) 2nd, Royal Fusilers (-) BG of 1st, Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regt ISV BG 2 x ISV batteries 1st, South Lancashire Regt BG of 1st, Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regt
