"Colonel, I'm receiving a coded message for you. Report to Alpha 6 ASAP then something about a General."
"Where's the phone in this goddamned village?"
"Over there, Sir."
"I'll be right back. Don't you dare leave without me."
He called the phone box at Maiden Bradley and there he was told to call the B&B Inn and was given the number.
The phone rang, "I'm looking for a MAJ Carter." A ringing tone again.
"Carter."
"George here. What the hell's going on?"
"Get your ass here, George and ten minutes ago. You're keeping a General waiting."
"Who and why?"
"General Wavell and he wishes to surrender to the almighty George Patton personally. Not a lowly Major like me. Let Irvine kick the silly 6th in the rear. You come straight here."
"On my way."
