At TRADOC I had several projects. The first was to translate Irvine's mission report into English. The second was to collate information about the new umpire rules. Finally to draw up a new TO&E for an Assault Gun Company to replace the current artillery-type organization. Naturally I worked with Irvine on the first and then asked him to help with the TO&E while I concentrated on the umpire rules report. Irvine had written a four page report so it took me a while to translate it. We were both in my office so that I could ask him about his report as well as how good the interface with the umpires was.
One of the first things I did was call COL Sharpe at the MoD. He's my POC, (Point of Contact), in the Umpire Section. He'll ensure that a preliminary assessment will be on my desk before Monday lunchtime. I discussed the umpire rules with the other 'front' commanders and there were mostly positive comments. By 17:00 my umpire report was almost finished. My last interviewee was LG Gort and he had nothing but praise for new rules.
George and I then went to the Armour Section in TRADOC to finalize the TO&E. We changed the four-gun troops to four-ISV platoons with three platoons to a company. The Headquarters platoon will have two ISV's plus two Anti-Aircraft vehicles, (still to be designed).
By 19:30 we were more or less finished so a few of us, including myself, decided to go to the hotel. Sally had come straight from London to the HQ so we drove the car home and walked to the hotel. We were famished so we opted to eat there and were greeted by Gertrude Miller who is of course working in the restaurant at weekends. Irvine, Lucy and Manfred joined us later.
I'm hoping for a lazy weekend but I shall make a quick visit to work on Sunday to ensure that I have everything ready for Monday. I'll be leaving for London early because I want to go to the Annex and my office in the MoD before the afternoon meeting.
